Trent Alexander-Arnold reacts to signing his new contract with Liverpool

Trent Alexander-Arnold has signed a new contract at Liverpool, suggesting it was an easy decision to stay at Anfield.

Since making his debut against Tottenham in a League Cup tie back in 2016, Trent Alexander-Arnold has become one of the top names in English football. The Liverpool attacking full-back has helped his side win the Champions League and Premier League in the last few years and now will prolong his career at Anfield.

A boyhood Red, Alexander-Arnold, has suggested it was an easy decision to stay put and sign a new deal with the club. The new four-year contract will extend his stay at least until 2025, and if he keeps his performance levels up, another extension will arrive soon enough.

The 22-year-old has notched up ten goals for the club and has proven to be a solid threat from right-back, laying down plenty of assists for teammates in the last few seasons. He and his fellow full-back Andy Robertson have been the unheralded heroes of their Champions League and Premier League triumphs.

Last season, however, there was a massive dip in his form, as Liverpool failed to retain their Preier League title. The reason could also have been due to the immense pressures on his young shoulders after the Reds suffered terrible fate with injuries to key defensive players.

The full-back got picked in Gareth Southgate’s England squad for the Euros, had to pull out due to injury. Those small blips have had very less effect on Liverpool and Jurgen Klopp’s vision for the future. The Reds have now duly secured one of their brightest and most important homegrown talents to a longer deal.

Speaking to Liverpool’s official website after signing his new contract, Alexander-Arnold was delighted at how things have gone so far. He said, “I’m honoured to be given the opportunity and to be shown the trust in the club to be given an extension, so it was a no-brainer for me. The state the club is in and where I’m at in my career is always a good option for me.”

“To extend and make sure I’m here longer is always a good thing. I’m made up. It’s the only club I’ve ever really known, so to be here for this amount of time and extending to be here for a longer amount of time is amazing for my family and me. It’s a proud moment for me – it always is – signing a new contract here. To be given the trust, like I said before, by the club and the staff is an amazing feeling.”

Furthermore, Alexander-Arnold was quizzed on his Ballon d’Or nomination back in 2019 after an incredible season winning the Champions League. The full-back responded and said, “It’s not too often [I think about it], but I think I’ve achieved so much, I’ve achieved so many dreams and goals that I never actually thought I would.”

“I live the dream every day, really. Being able to represent the club and to be in and around names and players, and obviously managers and staff, that are world-class every day is a privilege for me, and I’m very fortunate to be in the position I am.”

Liverpool fans will be eager to see their side take the pitch again, especially after COVID-19 related restrictions got lifted in the UK. To add to their delight, the sight of Alexander-Arnold with renewed enthusiasm will be pleasing . Overall, fans can relax over one of their brightest young talents until at least 2025.
