Trent Alexander-Arnold comments on future amid Real Madrid links

Liverpool defender Trent Alexander-Arnold has been linked with a move away from the Merseyside club in recent weeks.

Trent Alexander-Arnold is a target for La Liga champions Real Madrid, and he has now broken his silence over his long-term future at Liverpool. The English international will be a free agent in 2025 if he does not sign a new contract.

However, Alexander-Arnold has now revealed via Liverpool Echo that he could be open to staying provided the club can match up to his ambitions. The defender has revealed that it has always been his dream to captain the club.

Alexander-Arnold is expected to be the next Liverpool captain after Virgil van Dijk departs from Anfield, and his recent comments will certainly come across as encouraging for the club as they look to keep him for the long run.

The 25-year-old also explained that he wants to win major trophies in his career, and Liverpool will have to match up to his ambitions if they want to keep him at the club. The Reds have already established themselves as one of the best teams in Europe over the last few years, and they have been pushing for major trophies regularly.

As long as they can keep the side competitive and match up to the European elite, they will have every chance of holding on to their best players, including Alexander-Arnold.

“I have always said I want to captain the club, that is an aim of mine and a goal of mine, (but) whether that happens is out of my hands,” says Alexander-Arnold before adding, “Look, I have been at the club 20 years now, I have signed four or five contract extensions and none of those have been played out in public. And this one won’t be either.

“I want to be a Liverpool player this season (as a minimum) is what I will say. The most important thing is always trophies if I am honest,” he says. “I want to win trophies, I am a player who is highly motivated by trophies and winning things and being elite. So that is probably the main factor of anything, if you have a personality that is elite, who wants to win and will do anything to win, then that is what drives me.

“We were close to the title last season and we got a cup. The quad was on for a while, I suppose, the signs were there. This season we are looking really good, it is still early days, but we need a lot of consistency and to beat a lot of teams over the course of this season. Then you have the other cups, the Champions League and everything that comes around it. It will be difficult but we are looking to win as many trophies as we can.”

The 25-year-old is one of the best players in the world, and Liverpool cannot afford to lose him anytime soon. The Reds must do everything in their power to tie him down to a new long-term deal.

Meanwhile, Real Madrid are looking to bring in a quality long-term successor to Dani Carvajal, and Alexander-Arnold would be the ideal fit for them. The England international is already competing at a world-class level, and he is likely to improve with coaching and experience.

It is no surprise that the biggest clubs in the world are trying to sign him. The Englishman is an elite talent, and he could transform Real Madrid at the back. Apart from his defensive qualities, he is one of the best passers in world football, and his ability from set pieces would add a new dimension to the Real Madrid attack.
