Trent Alexander-Arnold takes a dig at Arsenal after Liverpool’s comprehensive win over the north Londoners at Anfield.
On Saturday, it was quite a contest at Anfield as Liverpool and Arsenal locked horns in a crunch Premier League fixture. The Reds got the better of their rivals comprehensively, as Jurgen Klopp’s men routed the Gunners 4-0.
While the Gunners were resilient in the first half, they were carved apart in the second period. Sadio Made had given Liverpool the lead after causing a furore between the two managers with a foul on Takehiro Tomiyasu. However, Diogo Jota, Mohamed Salah and Takumi Minamino ensured there was no way back for Arsenal.
Trent Alexander-Arnold was the creator in chief for Liverpool, providing two brilliant assists to cap off a terrific performance. He was instrumental with his pressing and making the best of Arsenal’s mistakes, who folded once the second goal went in.
The full-back has now taken a jibe at the Gunners after the win, suggesting Liverpool were too powerful for the north Londoners. The Mirror posted comments from Alexander-Arnold as he spoke to Sky Sports after the game.
Alexander-Arnold said, “In the first half, we had that aggression but didn’t capitalise on it. The first 15-20 minutes of the second half were as good as we’ve pressed all season. We were all over them — they were just seeing red blurs all over the place. That second half was outstanding.”
It was a special occasion for Alexander-Arnold, who reached a special landmark of registering 50 assists in the Premier League when he set Mane up for the opener. He then added another assist late on, creating the chance for Takumi Minamino’s goal.
The win took Liverpool into the second spot, although they lost the position to Manchester City after Pep Guardiola’s side overcame Everton 3-0 in the Premier League earlier on Sunday.
As for Arsenal, they will remain in fifth in the standings, which is still a healthy position given their standing in recent years. The defeat increases the point gap between them Liverpool, as the Reds are now five clear of the north London side.
