Gabbriel Agbonlahor has tipped Tottenham to sign West Bromwich Albion goalkeeper Sam Johnstone, who he believes can replace Hugo Lloris.

In a recent interview with Football Insider, Gabriel Agbonlahor spoke at length about the future of Sam Johnstone. The former Aston Villa star believes that West Brom should cash in on the 28-year-old goalkeeper in the upcoming January transfer window while urging Tottenham Hotspur to make a move.

Formerly of the Manchester United youth academy, Johnstone has been a rising star at West Brom ever since joining the club in 2018. In just three and a half years, the English international has notched up almost 150 competitive appearances for the club, not only becoming the first-choice for the Baggies but also establishing himself as one of the best shot-stoppers in England.

The 28-year-old’s success did lead to him being linked with a move to North London this summer, in the form of Arsenal. But the Gunners opted to sign Aaron Ramsdale instead. But according to Gabriel Agbonlahor, Johnstone’s future lies in North London suggesting Tottenham Hotspur as the ideal suitor.

Asked whether West Brom could even cash in during the January transfer window, Agbonlahor told Football Insider, “I think so. They need to make some money out of him instead of losing him on a free.”

The former English forward, who had made almost 400 appearances for Aston Villa in all competitions, went on to pitch him as the ideal long-term successor for Hugo Lloris.

“He’s a quality keeper. He can be number one for Spurs for many years. I hope that he gets that move because he deserves to be playing in the Premier League,” he added, though, in fairness, he was referring to the latest report that saw the Lilywhites eyeing a swoop for the 28-year-old West Brom goalkeeper.

Tottenham have also been linked with a move for Nick Pope recently, which suggests they are on the hunt for a new goalkeeper. It is hardly surprising as long-term no. 1 Hugo Lloris is expected to move on after the end of the season.

Fabio Paratici had signed Pierluigi Gollini in the summer, on a loan deal from Atalanta. But it appears Spurs are looking for someone who can offer him some much-needed competition in between the sticks and Sam Johnstone fits the bill perfectly, according to Gabby Agbonlahor.

Is agbonlahor an agent now. Would be a good signing but I don’t think they’ll let him go in January if they think they can get promoted!!!
