Liverpool legend Steve McManaman has offered advice to Trent Alexander-Arnold on a potential move to Real Madrid.
Trent Alexander-Arnold’s contract at Liverpool is running out and he has been linked with a move to Real Madrid for some time now. The Reds are keen on extending his stay but he could choose to walk away and join Los Blancos on a free transfer next summer.

Liverpool legend Steven McManaman who took a similar path back in the day has shared his advice for the English full-back has come up the ranks at the Merseyside club.
While speaking on TNT Sports ahead of Liverpool’s match against Villa, the former Real Madrid star said via The Mirror: “Would I encourage it? I had the most wonderful time,”
“I think if you speak to somebody else, Michael Owen was only there for a year, he had a great time but came back. I personally don’t know Trent’s situation. I think Liverpool want him to stay but it’s entirely a personal thing, isn’t it?
“Do Real Madrid want him? I think every club in the world would want him, someone of his calibre on a free… I think that goes without saying. But he might want to stay here – his family are here – or he might think ‘You know what, I’ve been here 20 years as a man and a boy, i’ll try somewhere new’. Because once he stays, if he does stay and sign a five year, six year deal here, he’s here for the future, isn’t he, he’s here for life.”
McManaman ran down his contract at Liverpool back when he was 27 and ended up joining the Madrid-based club on a free transfer after the end of the 1998-99 season. He had a four-year spell at the Spanish capital and surely enjoyed his time there.
The 52-year-old believes the Merseyside club would want him to stay and they will try their best to make it happen but he feels it’s a personal decision at the end of the day. It will be a tough decision and he might want to continue at his childhood club as his family also lives there.
But, he has been at Liverpool for around two decades and might crave a new challenge away from the club. If he does end up penning down a new long-term deal at the age of 26, it will mean he stays at Anfield for the rest of his career.
Alexander-Arnold has come up the ranks at Liverpool and he has already won all major titles at the club. As a result, it would make sense for him to try himself in a different league.
While talking about the Spanish giants wanting to sign the English international, McManaman suggested that any club in the world would love to sign some of Alexander-Arnold’s capabilities on a free transfer.
