Arsenal legend Ray Parlour has backed Aaron Ramsey to fit in nicely at Liverpool if he does move to Anfield this summer.
Aaron Ramsey’s future has become the talk of the summer in the English market, as the Juventus star eyes a return to the Premier League this summer. He has no shortage of potential suitors either, but Ray Parlour thinks it is Liverpool who can make the most sense for the talented midfielder, reports talkSPORT.
Parlour, who had made 440 competitive appearances for Arsenal, thinks highly of Ramsey. The Welshman actually joined Arsenal just a year after Parlour decided to hang up his boots at Hull City. Post then, he made 371 appearances for the Gunners, before leaving for Turin in 2019.
Unfortunately, the move has not panned out well for Ramsey. He has struggled with injuries and lack of game-time, with new coach Massimiliano Allegri unlikely to consider him in his plans. As such, the midfielder is determined to return to England, which has put on Liverpool, of all clubs, on red alert.
Speaking to talkSPORT, Ray Parlour has admitted Ramsey would be a great replacement for Georginio Wijnaldum at Anfield. “Liverpool would be great. They need to find a replacement for Wijnaldum don’t they? I think he’d be a good fit and that would be the Henderson situation sorted too,” he told the Breakfast Show on Wednesday.
However, the 48-year-old has suggested that the former Arsenal star may need to settle for a wage cut in this financial climate. “It’s all in the wages and whether he’d take a wage cut,” he added, suggesting that the move may even hinge on whether or not the Reds can afford huge hefty wages this summer.
Parlour’s former club Arsenal have been linked with a move for Ramsey as well. But it appears Mikel Arteta favours more up and coming talents. In fact, recent reports suggest that the Spaniard is already trying to work out a deal to bring back Martin Odegaard permanently.
Liverpool, too, have looked towards foreign talents in their quest to replace Wijnaldum. The Reds are heavily linked with a move Saul Niguez, but it remains to be seen whether they can fend off competition for Manchester United this summer.
