Reigning European champions Real Madrid dropped points for their second consecutive game as Levante’s early opener restricted them to a 1-1 draw

Zinedine Zidane’s men were held to a draw by Valencia before the international break and they had to endure a similar fate against Levante. Lucas Vazquez’s goal was only enough for yet another tie for Real Madrid. The club appeared to be growing increasingly frustrated at their inability to break down Levante’s stubborn defence.

Interestingly, Real made several changes in order to reserve some players for Wednesday’s Champions League opener against Apoel Nicosia. Hence, Kiko Casilla replaced Keylor Navas in goal while Luka Modric and Casemiro sat out.

The back-line, however, looked extremely shoddy despite the presence of Sergio Ramos. Ivan Lopez’s long throw-in evaded them all to find Ivi, who just needed to stick out a leg and poke the ball home within the first 12 minutes. Real  did fight back but it was just not their game. Most of the fans were also clearly missing their Portuguese star Cristiano Ronaldo.

A lot was also spoken about Zinedine Zidane’s luck possibly running out and Marcelo’s unnecessary red card in the end.
