Real Betis sporting director Antonio Cordon has spoken about the club’s links with Real Madrid midfielder Dani Ceballos.
Real Madrid midfielder Dani Ceballos is staring at an uncertain future at the Santiago Bernabeu. The Spaniard has been with the reigning La Liga champions for five years, having arrived from Real Betis in the summer of 2017. However, he has never managed to nail down a place for himself in the side.
Ceballos had a two-year spell away on loan at Arsenal, but the Gunners showed little interest in signing him permanently. Having returned to Real Madrid last summer, the midfielder spent the first half of the 2021/22 season out with injury before returning to action earlier this year. He featured sparingly in the latter stages of the campaign and did well whenever called upon.
However, Real Madrid already have a slew of midfielders ahead of him in the pecking order. On top of that, Los Blancos added Aurelien Tchouameni in a big-money transfer this summer, pushing Ceballos further down the list. So, it has been widely speculated that the Spanish international will be on his way out this summer.
Former club Real Betis have shown a strong interest in signing Ceballos. However, Real Madrid’s asking price of €12-15 million is proving to be an issue as the Verdiblancos are struggling with finances.
Now, Cordon, who has previously stated that Ceballos is keen on returning to Real Betis, has stated that he has no information about the situation surrounding the Real Madrid star while also adding that Manuel Pellegrini’s side already have enough players.
As quoted by Estadio Deportivo, he said: “I don’t know about the Dani Ceballos conversations nor do I have any information. “We have a lot of players on the squad. It doesn’t make sense to bring in new ones. We have to be consistent with the situation and we have to do the things that have to be done.”
However, he did not rule out a move for Ceballos completely, as he said: “We are open to having good players. Bellerín and Ceballos have a Betic soul and we will see which players and what possibilities there are to act accordingly to go for them or not.”
Ceballos is in the last year of his contract at Real Madrid. While a prolonged stay is not ruled out, it is likelier that the midfielder ends up departing the Santiago Bernabeu.
