Ray Parlour backs Arsenal in Dominic Calvert-Lewin pursuit

Ray Parlour would like Arsenal to consider Dominic Calvert-Lewin in the summer, insisting the Everton striker could add dynamism to their attack.

Arsenal’s need for a top striker is no secret, as director Edu and Mikel Arteta are working behind the scenes to draw up a precise shortlist. The club’s situation in the attacking department remains a little precarious, considering Eddie Nketiah and Alexandre Lacazette could exit the Emirates as free agents in the summer.

The contracts of both forwards are up in the summer, although Arsenal are planning talks with Lacazette to extend his stay. Irrespective of what transpires of the Frenchman’s immediate future, the Gunners are keen on recruiting a new striker in the next window.

Players like Darwin Nunez have been linked, while Napoli’s Victor Osimhen remains high on their agenda. The connections to such names indicate what sort of striker Arsenal are looking at, but there could be domestic options which could also be considered as well.

Everton’s Dominic Calvert-Lewin is also heavily linked with Arsenal. And considering the struggles of the Merseyside club, he could potentially be available in the summer. Signing the Everton striker could be a tricky and costly affair for any club, let alone Arsenal, although he has qualities that may suit the north London side.

Calvert-Lewin provides the link-up the Gunners need in the final third and the aerial prowess the north Londoners are missing in Lacazette. It remains to be seen if Arsenal step up their interest or if there are other more achievable names they are targeting.

However, Arsenal legend Ray Parlour has asked the Gunners to consider approaching Calvert-Lewin in the summer. In a conversation with Design Museum, as quoted by HITC, the former Arsenal midfielder suggested the Everton striker could change the dynamics of the attacking setup currently at play in north London.

Parlour said, “I’d also be interested in signing Dominic Calvert-Lewin from Everton because he would add a new dynamic to the forward players already at the club. I think he would hold the ball up well and interchange passes with runners from midfield.”

“He’d be a huge benefit to the likes of Saka and Smith Rowe. Ivan Toney and Dominic Calvert-Lewin are realistic targets who would improve the club this summer and I’m excited to see what happens.”
