Oscar Mingueza wants Celta Vigo stay amid Aston Villa, Newcastle United, West Ham United links

Oscar Mingueza is keen to stay at Celta Vigo beyond the summer despite widespread Premier League interest in the defender.

Oscar Mingueza has established himself as a top player in Spain since making his move to Celta Vigo from Barcelona. The defender is a starter for the La Liga side, but his contractual situation is causing some tensions behind the scenes.

Mingueza is in the final year of his deal at Celta Vigo, with the club not sure if he will renew beyond the summer. Should they make an offer that the player refuses, he could be available on a free transfer in the summer, as a host of teams from around the top five leagues are interested.

At the moment, the Premier League might be an attractive destination, with a recent report claiming the 26-year-old La Liga defender might be open to making the move to England. However, the case is more complex than anyone could envisage, as Mingueza seemingly prefers other things than just money.

The 26-year-old La Liga defender admitted that should he continue with Celta Vigo by signing a new deal, he would make far less money compared to what others might pay him elsewhere. He has stated that there are chances of him staying at Celta Vigo, which has given the club some level of confidence in keeping the defender.

He made some comments that appeared on Estadio Deportivo, which indicated his willingness to stay at Celta Vigo. Mingueza also stated that he prefers the comfort in his current surroundings over choosing another club for more money.

Mingueza said, “I’m very happy here, very content. I know that if I stay here I wouldn’t earn the same as in other places, but personally, I’m also looking for a bit of comfort.”

” I don’t know the percentage, but what I do know is that we’re talking. I’m very comfortable here, I want to stay here, but we’ll see what happens. Right now we have to focus on football, on Thursday’s match.”

Should Celta Vigo make a favourable offer and convince Mingueza to stay, it would be a blow for some of the Premier League sides angling for a move. The likes of Aston Villa, Newcastle United and West Ham are keen to sign him on a free transfer next summer, but it may now depend on whether the player will sign a new deal at Celta Vigo in the coming period.
