Gabriel Agbonlahor has questioned Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s decision not to start Cristiano Ronaldo for Manchester United in the game against Everton.

Speaking to talkSPORT, as relayed by the Metro, former Aston Villa striker Gabriel Agbonlahor has slammed Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer for his dubious selection against Everton at the weekend.

Solskjaer raised eyebrows at the weekend when he dropped superstar signing Cristiano Ronaldo for the game while he also benched Paul Pogba despite it being a crucial home tie. And it came to bite the Red Devils back as they were held to a 1-1 draw by the Toffees with Anthony Martial’s strike being cancelled out by Andros Townsend.

Speaking after the game, Agbonlahor has lashed out at the Norwegian for dropping Ronaldo, terming it as a ‘sackable offence’. “‘It’s a sackable offence not to start Ronaldo in itself. Ronaldo you have to play him, you just put yourself under so much pressure by not playing him, he has to start,” he said.

“He’s been brought in on probably £700,000 a week so to play games and win leagues for Manchester United. He’s in that squad to win the Premier League this season.”

Agbonlahor then went on to question Solskjaer’s pedigree and admitted that it is unlikely that the former striker would lead United to the Premier League title. “Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is not going to win the league for Manchester United. Even the last 30 seconds of the game he’s laughing on the touchline, it just shows he’s happy with a draw, you shouldn’t be happy with a draw against Everton at home,” he added.

The pressure is on Solskjaer now, with Manchester United dropping points in two winnable home fixtures in the league. With games against the likes of Leicester City, Liverpool, Tottenham, Manchester City coming up after the international break, things could take a turn for the worse for the Norwegian unless he manages to sort things out.

As things stand, though, Manchester United remain just two points shy of league leaders Chelsea. But unless the performances improve, fans, who have backed the manager all this time, may soon begin to turn especially considering the quality of the players he has in the squad.
