In a surprise turn of events, Real Madrid have appointed Zinedine Zidane as the manager just nine months after he quit, as Santiago Solari is axed.

Real Madrid have confirmed the appointment of Zinedine Zidane as their new manager, after Santiago Solari was relieved of his duties.

It has been a tumultuous campaign for the Merengues, that saw them sack Julen Lopetegui as the manager just three months into his tenure, having appointed him as Zidane’s replacement in the summer.

Solari was appointed as the former Spain head coach’s replacement and was off to a solid start to his tenure, until a catastrophic ten-day period that saw Real Madrid crash out of the Copa del Rey and the UEFA Champions League, while any slim hopes of a La Liga title bid were also crushed.

Despite Real Madrid returning to winning ways with a 4-1 triumph over Real Valladolid on Sunday night, Solari has been sacked. And Zidane, who won a whopping nine trophies in his two-and-a-half year spell with Real Madrid, has been renamed as the manager. The Frenchman has signed a deal that lasts till the summer of 2022 with the club.

Here’s how Real Madrid fans reacted to the huge announcement on social media.

Some fans were sympathetic towards Solari who got the sack.
