Newcastle United interest in Eguinaldo confirmed

Newcastle United, West Ham United line up Rayan Vitor Simplico move.

Newcastle United’s interest in Vasco da Gama’s £26 million-rated wonderkid Eguinaldo has been confirmed by the player’s agent.

Newcastle United are reportedly interested in an expensive potential transfer deal for Vasco da Gama wonderkid Eguinaldo. That is according to the player’s agent, who has confirmed that the Magpies are one of several clubs keeping close tabs on the 18-year-old prodigy, with interview comments relayed by Chronicle Live.

Eguinaldo is a product of the renowned Vasco da Gama academy that has produced the likes of Douglas Luis and Philippe Coutinho in the past. The teenage sensation has burst onto the Serie B scene over the last six months or so. He made his senior debut for the club back in July in the Campeonato Brasileiro Serie B game against Ituano and scored his first goal a week later against CRB.

The 18-year-old starlet is a huge talent and is very highly rated in his homeland, having scored three times in just six starts for his club. Eguinaldo recently received his first call-up to the Brazilian Under-20 national team as a byproduct of his great form and breakthrough in the Brazilian second tier.

Vasco snapped him up from lower tier side Artsul in 2021, initially on loan. And they only made his stay permanent this past summer, tying him down to a five-year deal. But Eguinaldo is already garnering major Premier League interest, with Newcastle United one of the clubs keen on acquiring his signature.

The Magpies are on the lookout for some of the planet’s top young prodigies, having recently secured the signing of Australian teenage star Garang Kuol in an out-of-the-window move.

The Tynesiders have been targeting Brazilian talents in the last few weeks. Recent reports have suggested that the Magpies have made moves for Santos winger Angelo Gabriel and Vasco’s midfield sensation Andrey Santos, for whom the Tyneside giants are confident of getting a deal over the line.

However, it appears Santos is not the only Vasco player on Newcastle’s radar, with Eguinaldo becoming the latest Brazilian prodigy on the Toon agenda, having been monitored by Newcastle scouts in recent weeks. Newcastle were said to be faintly interested in Eguinaldo earlier this month, and the player’s agent has now confirmed those rumours.

Speaking on the Canal do Pedrosa Youtube channel, the player’s agent said, “There is an observation, yes, from Newcastle, over Eguinaldo. But there is also the observation of several other clubs. These are very embryonic things, very early, and they are not even considered negotiations or anything very official.”

While Newcastle’s new director of football, Dan Ashworth, pulled off some shrewd high-profile moves last summer, that is not one of the major facets of the former Brighton & Hove Albion transfer supremo’s career. The Englishman is well known to have an eye on the very brightest young talent.

The likes of Moises Caicedo, Enock Mwepu, and Alexis Mac Allister all joined the Seagulls under the age of 20 when Ashworth was at the Amex Stadium. He looks to repeat the similar trick at Newcastle by bringing in Eguinaldo. But Newcastle are not the Premier League club eyeing a move for the dynamic winger, with West Ham United also believed to have sent officials to watch the player in action.
