Mikel Arteta comments on slow Arsenal business this summer

Arsenal offer €47 million to sign Chelsea target Riccardo Calafiori, told to pay more.

Arsenal have been linked with a number of players in recent weeks, and Mikel Arteta wants to strengthen his squad ahead of the upcoming season.

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has now opened up on the club’s slow start to the summer transfer window. The Spanish tactician has revealed that the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules have affected Arsenal’s transfer business this summer, meaning which they have had to bide their time before making signings. The Gunners will probably look to get rid of their fringe players first and balance the books.

In an interview with club media, Arteta said, “I think you can tell everything is a bit slower. I think the market and the new rules in place have caused that clubs are more aware and it’s a bit more delicate to do business in the way we’ve done in the last few seasons.

“We have adapted to that, and we still want to deliver what we want in the transfer window to have a much more competitive team, and improve the squad in every area that we can.”

It will be interesting to see if Arsenal can bring in the right reinforcements in the coming weeks. The Gunners are expected to challenge for the league title once again, and they need quality players in order to overtake Manchester City.

The North London club have missed out on the Premier League title in the last two seasons and they will be desperate to go all the way this time around. They will need deeper squad with more quality to win  major competitions.

Arsenal need to improve key areas

Arsenal should look to bring in a quality central midfielder who can control the tempo of the game and add creativity to the side. In addition, they should look to invest in a reliable centre forward as well. Gabriel Jesus failed to score goals consistently, and Arsenal need an upgrade on him. They have shown interest in strikers like Brian Brobbey.

Furthermore, they could use a quality winger who is capable of operating on either flank. Mikel Arteta has failed to rotate players like Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli quite often due to the lack of depth in his squad.

Arsenal have spent substantial amounts of money in recent windows, and they will be expected to bring in quality players this summer as well. It will be interesting to see if they can plug the gaps in their squad and perform at a high level next season.
