Michail Antonio tipped his team, West Ham United, to finish above Liverpool in the Premier League table come the end of the campaign.
Early season form often has a different effect on fans into thinking their team are above the rest, especially if they have had a fantastic start to the campaign. For instance, last season, Spurs fans were led to believe Antonio Conte could lead the team into a title race after their best-ever start to a Premier League season, and then everything turned into a disaster.
Similarly, this time around, West Ham have had a fantastic start to the campaign and sit in 10th place after three wins, a draw and a loss to their name. The latter came only last weekend when they took the lead over Manchester City, only for the visitors to fight back and collect three points.
Their form contrasts with their position this time last season. One player who has come to the party is Michail Antonio, who, like most fans, seems to have got carried away by West Ham’s early season results. The Hammers have been playing well from the tail end of last campaign, which saw them lift the Europa Conference League.
Antonio has now suggested his West Ham side can finish above Liverpool in the Premier League table. His comments appeared on ESPN, as the forward puts an optimistic foot forward while making a bold claim against Jurgen Klopp’s side.

Antonio said, “I’m backing myself over Liverpool. You know what, I actually think we’re going to finish higher than Liverpool this season. I’m putting it out there.”
The two teams face each other at the weekend after their respective European commitments in the Europa League. West Ham could make a statement of intent if they can conjure a positive result at Anfield, as Antonio, after his comments, will surely expect a starring win there.
Incidentally, West Ham have yet to win at Anfield in their last four visits and winless against them in their previous three games in the Premier League. Liverpool, for their part, will consider themselves favourites to get a win at the venue and will look to put some gap between them and the Hammers.
