Martin Keown slams Manchester United for keeping Erik ten Hag

Manchester United crashed to a 3-0 defeat against Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday, and Martin Keown has slammed them for keeping hold of Erik ten Hag.

Former Arsenal defender and popular pundit Martin Keown has now slammed Manchester United for persisting with Erik ten Hag despite poor performances from the team. In an interview via Daily Mirror, Keown has claimed that Manchester United are to blame for their recent debacles, and they should have changed managers earlier.

“If you’re going to stick with a manager who lost 13 Premier League games last year it’s quite astonishing. Manchester United won the FA Cup and that saved Erik ten Hag,” the former England defender said.

“He is under huge pressure already. Then you look at Ange at Spurs who have no trophy since 2008 – that was 16 years ago. I feel Spurs will now turn the corner. I like how the manger is getting it in there and putting it on the line that he wins something in his second season. Nonetheless, he is prepared to put it on the line and I like that.”

The Dutch manager is already under a lot of pressure after a poor start to the season, and the defeat against Tottenham will only worsen the situation for him

It will be interesting to see if Manchester United decide to move for other managers in the coming weeks. A club of their stature should be challenging for league titles and fighting in the Champions League. They missed out on a top-four finish last season and judging by their start this season they are likely to miss out on Champions League qualification once again unless they improve drastically.

Man United need a better manager

Manchester United have backed Erik ten Hag with substantial funds in the transfer market and he has spent in excess of £600 million on several new signings. However, the Dutch manager has not been able to get the best out of the team. It is evident that he is not the right man for the job and Manchester United will have to let go of their faith in him and bring in someone who can get the best out of the Manchester United players once again.

They have been linked with a host of managers in recent months, and it remains to be seen who they appoint. There is no doubt that they have a quality squad and a quality manager could bring out the best in the current set of players.
