Manchester United will not qualify for the UEFA Champions League with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as manager claims ex-West Ham star Frank McAvennie.
Speaking to Football Insider, former West Ham United striker Frank McAvennie has slammed Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, claiming that the Red Devils have no chance of making it to the top four with the Norwegian in charge.
Solskjaer has been at the helm of affairs at Old Trafford for close to three years now, but is yet to lead the club to a trophy. The ex-Molde boss has come under intense scrutiny due to Manchester United’s poor run of results following the international break in September.
Wednesday’s comeback 3-2 win against Atalanta in the UEFA Champions League may have offered Solskjaer some respite, but questions remain over his suitability for the role. And, McAvennie is the latest to hit out at the Manchester United boss, exclaiming that the team should not be losing in the manner they do, with the kind of players that they have.
The ex-West Ham hitman then went on to add that there was no way the 20-time English champions would make it to the top four, if Solskjaer remains in charge for the rest of the season. “Man United are not going to get to the Champions League. I’ll tell you what, for all the players that are there they should not be getting beaten,” he said.
“How are they losing games? It’s embarrassing. Ronaldo is only getting a few touches in the game. It’s just embarrassing. I don’t care who you are, it’s down to Ole and his constantly chopping and changing. Players like Ronaldo will be wondering why they are on the bench. It makes no sense.
“I don’t care what anyone says, I couldn’t give a monkey’s. Ronaldo wants to play. It’s awful management. I don’t think Solskjaer is the man, he won’t win anything and there has to be concerns over getting in the top four now.”
Following the weekend 4-2 loss to Leicester City, Manchester United slipped down to sixth in the Premier League table, below the likes of Brighton & Hove Albion and Tottenham Hotspur. With a huge fixture against Liverpool coming up next, a loss here could further increase the pressure on the manager as Manchester United look to get their season back on track.
