Manchester United have been urged to sack Ole Gunnar Solskjaer after shock Champions League defeat to Young Boys.

Talksport podcast host Jason Cundy has attacked Ole Gunnar Solskjaer after Manchester United’s shock defeat to BSC Young Boys in the UEFA Champions League on Tuesday. He believes that the Norwegian should be sacked and replaced with former Chelsea manager Antonio Conte.

Cundy is one of many football pundits who have targeted Solskjaer for Man United’s poor performances against the Swiss outfit on Tuesday. They were toothless going forward and were crippled by Aaron Wan-Bissaka’s red card in the first half, with Young Boys scoring two second-half goals to secure all three points.

“That there shows he’s utterly clueless. That performance, the team shape… they went down to ten men, yes, but come on. They went to five at the back and he didn’t change it,” Cundy said on the Sports Bar, as quoted by Talksport.

“They were getting overrun in the middle of the park. Poor Fred, Paul Pogba and Bruno Fernandes. I’ve got so much sympathy for them, they had no help, they were getting passed around. The back five didn’t move, they were getting outnumbered. It wasn’t working, they should have gone for four in defence and four in midfield,” he added.

Jason Cundy, who is a former professional footballer and had played for London clubs like Tottenham, Chelsea and Crystal Palace, further attacked Solskjaer over his tactical decisions before suggesting Antonio Conte as a potential replacement.

“Young Boys are normally whipping boys of European football and United get rolled over 2-1… it was a disasterclass, it was an absolute disaster. It exposed Ole, it did badly. I’d sack him. We know what’s coming, don’t we? You’ve got Antonio Conte out there…”, said the 51-year-old.

Cundy hasn’t been the only one to suggest Conte as a potential managerial candidate for Manchester United this week, and it is apparent that the Italian tactician will be earmarked as the most likely option, should Manchester United sack Solskjaer. The former Chelsea manager, after all, had an excellent spell at Inter Milan in the past two seasons, helping them secure the Scudetto last term.

Solskjaer’s dismissal from Old Trafford, though, appears to be unlikely at this point. The Norwegian has recently signed a contract extension at the club, and despite the defeat to Young Boys, his team has fared well in the Premier League and are even leading the league table with ten points in four matches.
