Manchester United legend Roy Keane calls for patience with Jadon Sancho

Keane: A ticking time-bomb

Roy Keane believes Jadon Sancho will come good eventually but calls for patience with the attacker after a slow start to life in the Premier League.

Jadon Sancho was supposed to bring a certain level of bite to Manchester United’s attack and got fans all too excited after the club completed his signing this summer. After two long years of speculation, the winger finally moved from the Bundesliga to the Premier League, but times have been tough lately.

He was primed to become a pivotal part of United’s attack, but the arrival of Cristiano Ronaldo has changed the equation a bit. As the Portuguese is understandably a certain starter, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has seemingly sacrificed Sancho for the 36-year-old.

The former Borussia Dortmund star has played in six Premier League games this season, not all from the start and is yet to score or assist. He did get a couple of assists for England against Andorra, which should boost his form a little. But he needs quick improvements to his club form or might find himself marginalised by the manager.

To be fair, Sancho had a turbulent summer, missed pre-season with the club as he finalised his transfer and had a major heartbreak after missing a crucial penalty kick for England in the Euros Final. Considering all that, any player would need time to adjust to a new league, and Sancho has never played in the Premier League before.

Roy Keane has echoed a similar sentiment, as the former Manchester United captain calls for patience with Sancho. The Metro posted some of the quotes from Keane as he spoke to ITV. The former midfielder believes the attacker will come good with time.

Keane said, “It’s certainly been a slow start for him, but it’s one thing doing alright for Dortmund; it’s a different animal going to Man United with different expectations.

“He’s been a bit overshadowed recently with Ronaldo coming in, but I’d always give the kid a chance. He’s only been there for a few months; give the kid a chance.”

For most parts, Keane is right. However, on the Ronaldo problem, the Portuguese has already proven his mettle by scoring goals for the club. Sancho needs to step out of the former Real Madrid star’s shadow and show his own ability to become an important part of this Manchester United attack.
