A second half brace from Romelu Lukaku and an Andreas Pereira wonder-goal sealed a last-gasp 3-2 comeback win for Manchester United against Southampton.
Manchester United came back from being a goal down to defeat Southampton 3-2 at Old Trafford on Saturday, to move into the fourth spot in the Premier League standings.
The Red Devils were pegged back in the 26th minute, as young wing-back Yan Valery struck home a wonderful goal from 25 yards out. Having failed to find a way back in the first half, Manchester United reinstated parity in the 53rd minute, courtesy of a screamer from midfielder Andreas Pereira.
Minutes later, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men took the lead as Romelu Lukaku fired in a low curling effort to continue his good scoring form after his brace against Crystal Palace. The Saints were back on level terms though, when James Ward-Prowse hit home another stunner in the 75th minute, but a last-gasp strike from Lukaku in the 88th minute settled the tie.
Manchester United had a chance to make it four, but Paul Pogba’s penalty was saved by Angus Gunn. The result meant Solskjaer’s men moved back to the fourth place in the table, following Arsenal’s 1-1 draw against Tottenham. And here’s how the Red Devils’ fans reacted to the victory;
@ManUtd @SolskjaerMind has done more than enough… It will be an insult if he is not given the job. He reminisce us of Sir Alex ferguson's era… The last minute pressure?, the late goals⚽, the drama? #GGMU❤ pic.twitter.com/38HeJjiATA

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is unbeaten in 12 Premier League games as Manchester United's manager. The second half was absolutely unreal, what a match. ? pic.twitter.com/VgNSh11X85

Incredible job so far by Solskjaer and all his coaching staff and players. When he took over @ManUtd 11 points adrift of 4th now just 3 points off 3rd !!!

Lukaku came up clutch for Manchester United, just like he did against Crystal Palace, scoring two goals once more. And the fans took to social media to celebrate the Belgian’s match-winning display against the Saints;

How funny would it be if Lukaku was actually right footed this whole time and he only just realised in the last week

So Lukaku went on a goal drought and has more goals than Lacazette who’s having his greatest seasonpic.twitter.com/IXdfkGU5cy

Lukaku has been faced with some real criticism this season, but this last week he’s put a shift in out wide against Liverpool, scored two big goals against Palace in midweek and scored two huge goals again today. He’s come through when the club needed him most. Delighted for him!

4 goals in 3 days for Lukaku, directly earning us 5 points. We needed the big man to step up and he’s done exactly that, he is a confidence player and hopefully he can keep going.

Lukaku in his worst season as a pro has more goals than Icardi this season and is level with Griezmann on goals. pic.twitter.com/NzeIeV93XI

Romelu Lukaku has now scored as many Premier League goals (12) as Eden Hazard & Raheem Sterling this season.

Romelu Lukaku deserves huge respect, 4 goals in his last 2 games for us.
Ole making him into a clinical goal scorer, his two goals today were fantastic ? pic.twitter.com/nXokfAbyL7

That’s Lukaku joint with Ian Wright as the 19th top scorer in the PL ever and he’s only 25. I was seeing posts the other day wanting us to replace him with Callum Wilson ????
