Manchester United wasted an early lead in the Europa League quarter-final tie against Anderlecht and will be left with yet another 1-1 draw in a game which could’ve been a victory.
It’s a saga that has been going on for quite some time now – Manchester United gets an early lead but then ends up losing it, and ends the game in a draw. It’s increasingly frustrating, for the club as well as the fans. Despite a great goal from Henrikh Mkhitaryan, United just failed to capitalise on the moment and couldn’t seal a victory.
As far as Anderlecht goes, Manchester United did outplay them. However, it was that one slip by Matteo Darmian, which allowed Leander Dendoncker to head in an equaliser. Interestingly, that was the Belgian club’s first ever attempt at goal in the entire match.
United lost a game which they should’ve won, and here are some of the most tweeted-about instances.
The Armenian Henrikh Mkhitaryan played a great shot into the goal and Twitter exploded in praises for him. Yesterday’s goal also makes it his fourth successive away goal in a European appearance for Manchester United.
Deserved lead for Manchester United. Hugely vital away goal scored by Henrikh Mkhitaryan. Ninth of the season. Right place, right time.

Excellent finish from Mkhitaryan
From that angle it wasn't easy to any means #Mufc pic.twitter.com/zSXaxANUMo

Henrikh Mkhitaryan! That well deserved goal finally taken.

As mentioned before, Manchester United lost their chances to convert this game into a win. The club really needs to work on their finishing to minimise the number of draws they’ve had to endure.
A draw for Manchester United. Whoever would have thought?

Manchester United is a drawing board

Do Manchester United want to hit the woodwork any more times this season?

A lot of anger was also directed towards Belgian midfielder Marouane Fellaini for delivering a below-par performance against Anderlecht.
Fellaini comes on against Everton at 1-0 up, game ends 1-1.

Just leave.

Can you imagine Fellaini or Lingard playing regularly for Chelsea, Spurs, City etc?
So why does Jose think it's good enough for United?

Every time were winning, and comfortable at it, the man brings on Fellaini without fail. Backfired a good few times too, hate Mou at times

Letting Schweinsteiger go & keeping Fellaini is like getting rid of your Rolls Royce & driving around in a tractor!!

Pogba and Carrick ran the game but that wasn't good enough for our manager, he had to yet again shrove Fellaini down our throats
