Liverpool urged to sign Federico Chiesa by Joe Cole

Joe Cole has urged Liverpool to sign Juventus’ rising star Federico Chiesa after an “indifferent” summer transfer window.

Speaking to Coral, Joe Cole has suggested Liverpool make a move for Federico Chiesa. The former winger believes that the Reds should have strengthened their team sooner rather than later and the Juventus attacker could be the perfect target for Jurgen Klopp.

Cole’s suggestions come just a few days after Chiesa’s starring role in Juventus’ 1-0 victory over his former side Chelsea in the UEFA Champions League. The Italian international scored the all-important winner in that tie, helping his team overcome the challenge posed by the reigning European champions.

Metro has published excerpts of Joe Cole’s recent interview with Coral, where the former England international has hailed the ex-Fiorentina prodigy while suggesting him as an ideal option for his own former club Liverpool.

“It was an indifferent summer for Liverpool. I was surprised they didn’t go out and bring in a superstar. Like what Sir Alex Ferguson used to do when they would win trophies. They’d go again and double down, they’d bring someone in who might sort of ruffle feathers,” Cole told Coral.

Son of revered Italian footballer Enrico Chiesa, Federico has enjoyed a swift rise in stock in recent months, particularly after his starring role for Italy during the European Championship in the summer. The winger did have a slow start to the Serie A campaign, but he has now picked up the pace, as evident with his performance against Chelsea.

“Someone like Chiesa is an absolute perfect player from Juventus for Liverpool, the way he plays,” added Cole, who is convinced that the 23-year-old has what it takes to further improve a Liverpool team that is unbeaten in the Premier League table at the moment.

To Joe Cole’s liking, it appears Liverpool are already in the market for Federico Chiesa and incidentally face competition from Chelsea, as the two Premier League giants look lure the Italian international to English shores next summer.

Juventus, though, will be determined to keep hold of the star sensation, having already lost Cristiano Ronaldo this summer. They could, however, offload other talents in the squad including Dejan Kulusevski, who is a January target for Tottenham Hotspur.
