Liverpool kept pace with leaders Manchester City and Arsenal as they took the honours against Crystal Palace in a six-goal thriller at Selhurst Park.
In a frenzied encounter at Selhurst Park, Liverpool came through 4-2 victors in a six-goal thriller over Crystal Palace as they continued their unbeaten run in the Premier League to stay with the Arsenal and Manchester City at the top.
It was a defensive horror-show from both sides on the night as 4 of the six goals went through in the first thirty minutes itself and could have well been avoided had the back-line been a little more solid. The game was reminiscent of Liverpool’s memorable encounters last season against Borussia Dortmund and Norwich City when they won 4-3 and 5-4 respectively.
The Reds took the lead in the 16th minute through a slick move finished off by Emre Can for his first goal of the season. Coutinho sent in a ball into the box where Moreno played a great first-time pass into Palace’s penalty area for an incoming Can to slot it in.
Emre Can’s first goal for @LFC in 23 appearances since netting in the 6-0 win at Aston Villa in February.

Emre Can: Has scored only his third goal in 63 Premier League appearances for Liverpool #CRYLIV pic.twitter.com/N2oF3fflil

Great clipped ball by Coutinho to Moreno who puts in a perfectly, volleyed cross to Emre Can who puts it in the bottom corner. Great goal.

Goal was almost as pretty as Emre Can #LFC

Hardly had two minutes passed since the Liverpool opener, Lovren’s suicidal “clearance” put James McArthur through on goal and the Palace midfielder did the needful to capitalize on the Croatian’s gift. But the 27-year-old quickly made amends with a brilliant header off a Coutinho corner in the 20th minute to restore the lead for the Reds.
Terrific going forward, exact opposite at the back. #Lovren at fault at the back, regardless of his goal, he’s been horribly exposed. #lfc

Superb build up play from Matip and Lovren for Palace’s goal. pic.twitter.com/99H6PsldCO

And no Lovren’s goal doesn’t make up for the error. What will make up for it is if he learns to eradicate the complacency in his game.

An assist and a goal for Lovren in a matter of minutes.

Lovren SILENCES HIS CRITICS with a goal. Because that’s how it works, right?
— SportsJOE (@SportsJOE_UK) October 29, 2016
The moment Lovren gave that goal away. I kid you not. #LFC pic.twitter.com/MBcE9OREKQ

3 things are guaranteed in life, death, taxes and Lovren to make a mistake that leads to a goal
— Liam (@LJ_Hilton) October 29, 2016
First time Lovren has made a real mistake in a while today but recovered superbly and scored at the other end.

Joel Matip scored his first goal for the Reds just before half-time as he prodded in a bullet of a header off Coutinho’s corner with the Cameroonian seemingly unmarked by any Palace defender.
Matip has FINALLY scored from a corner

A bit odd to praise Liverpool defenders given the team conceded two soft goals but thought Matip & Clyne were superb tonight.

I’m still struggling to get over the fact that Joel Matip cost £0. ZERO. Incredible bit of business….wonderful header.

Thumping header from Matip but the marking was absolutely horrendous. Crazy game.

The game was well and truly in the bag when Roberto Firmino delightfully chipped the ball over Steve Mandanda after picking up Henderson’s well-weighted through ball.
Coutinho with 2 assists and Firmino with a Romário-esque finish away to Crystal Palace. Liverpool’s Brazilians are on fire.

Exquisite finish from Firmino but all about the quality of the pass from Henderson. Inch perfect.
— James Pearce (@JamesPearceEcho) October 29, 2016
Great assist from Henderson & finish from Firmino. Well worth the £7 for taking the shirt off.
— Jamie Carragher (@Carra23) October 29, 2016
Roberto Firmino doing what Roberto Firmino does best. Honestly, I’ve run out of superlatives to describe just how good he is for us.
