Liverpool backed to make Joao Felix move

Joao Felix wants Chelsea return amid Aston Villa links.

Steve McManaman has urged Jurgen Klopp to swoop for Atletico Madrid’s Joao Felix, comparing the Portuguese star to Fernando Torres.

Liverpool are flying now, heading into this important weekend, while also progressing well in their Champions League group. They beat Atletico Madrid during midweek in an exceptional clash and thrashed Manchester United at Old Trafford.

While their squad might look extremely well-stocked, Jurgen Klopp is searching for viable attacking talents to freshen up his front line. To strengthen their wide areas, they are linked with several names, including Raphinha, Adama Traore, and Ismaila Sarr.

Lately, there have been reports of links to Atletico Madrid star Joao Felix, which suggests they are on the lookout for a central attacking player. Diogo Jota has adapted well at Anfield, but niggling injury problems keep him in and out of the side. While the former Wolves star is a long-term option, Liverpool want another player with a different profile.

And Joao Felix could be this player Liverpool needs. He has played mostly behind the striker, trying to influence proceedings in a slightly deeper position than those in the front three. He joined Atletico Madrid in a huge deal costing the Spanish side nearly €120 million; the La Liga champions could consider selling him if a reasonable offer arrives.

Despite being viewed as the future of Atletico, Liverpool could yet sign him if they make a good offer. Former Liverpool star Steve McManaman feels Felix could be the perfect player for the club, drawing comparisons with former Reds and Atletico star Fernando Torres. SI posted comments from Horseracing.net as the BT Sport pundit spoke at length about the Portuguese and his old side.

McManaman suggested Felix may not be suited to Atletico’s style and that Liverpool may be the place for him. He said, “João Félix is one of European football’s most talked-about prospects, but he’s found it difficult to find his best form in Spain. I think that goes without saying that the style of football Liverpool plays would suit him better than his current club Atlético Madrid’s.

“It’s an easy one. Atlético Madrid doesn’t play to his strengths, and Liverpool may do.”

McManaman then compared Felix to Torres, stating the Portuguese could fit at Liverpool as the Spaniard did. He continued, “Sometimes you play in teams where you do fit in, sometimes you play in teams where you don’t. The prime example is Fernando Torres. He fitted in at Liverpool no problem.”

“Then he went to Chelsea, they played a different style of football, and he didn’t fit in. It’s the same with João Félix. He’s gone to Atlético, and their style of football doesn’t play to his strengths. But after spending £113million, Atlético Madrid would want a lot of money back off him.”
