Liverpool were not at their clinical best but goals from Xherdan Shaqiri and Mohamed Salah ensured a 2-0 win over a struggling Fulham side at Anfield.
Liverpool started the game brighter of the two sides. But, despite regular spells of dominance and barrage of attempts at the Fulham goal, the attackers seem to lack incisiveness in the final third or with their shots. But, Mohamed Salah soon swept the ball inside the back of the net, thanks to a beautiful ball from Trent Alexander-Arnold.
Liverpool did not take long to double their lead, with Andrew Robertson finding Xherdan Shaqiri unmarked in the box in the second half. The Swiss speedster duly obliged to extend the advantage. Fulham were not totally irrelevant though. They had their own share of chances, including a header that was disallowed for offside when the score was 0-0.
Despite not being at his best, Mohamed Salah once again found the back of the net and could have had a couple more if he was in his usual form. Twitterati seem to agree with it.
Home, sweet home. Mo Salah at Anfield.?

90th minute, game virtually over, and Mo Salah is still visibly upset about not scoring or creating more here. Unbelievable hunger to score goals from one of the best in the world right now. #LIVFUL pic.twitter.com/lYOIRPGd5V

But, unknowingly, Mohamed Salah was part of controversy during the match. Fulham star Aleksandar Mitrovic’s goal was flagged for offside, which upon replays is shown to be wrongly given by the officials, with Salah scoring just seconds after. Twitter spotted this, with the call for VAR to be introduced growing stronger.
It was 13 seconds between Mitrovic’s header hitting the net (goal wrongly disallowed for offside) and Salah’s finish hitting the net at the other end. Thirteen. Football for you.

Mitrovic goal incorrectly ruled out, Liverpool score seconds later. Life without VAR continues to embarrass this league.

The standard of refereeing in the prem is appalling. Austin was spot with his rant. Forget the toght offside call against Mitrovic. Its moving ball when the keeper plays the free kick. That is a basic thing that no ref should ever miss #LIVFUL

Shaqiri though, continued to earn praise for his performances, with his goal adding that much-needed cushion.
Look sooooooo much better when Shaqiri please. Bring Keita in and that’s shit hot midfield. Let Gini have a rest. I wanna see Salah & Mane switch for one or two games. Decent win. ?? #lfc

Shaqiri has scored or assisted in 5 of his last 6 games for Liverpool. Needs to start more often. pic.twitter.com/lZJ2Vo9RFP

Always knew that Shaqiri would come good but never thought he would improve us this much. In a season like this where we’ve lost our fluidity somewhat, he’s been a breath of fresh air.

That’s why you start Shaqiri. Lallana would’ve stopped the ball, did a Cruyff turn and then dribbled the ball out for a goal kick.
