Second-half strikes from Shinji Okazaki and Islam Slimani helped Leicester notch up a convincing win against Liverpool in the third round of the Carabao Cup.
Liverpool lost 2-0 at the King Power Stadium last night, against a well-organized Leicester City squad. The Reds’ Carabao Cup campaign came to an early end as second-half goals from Shinji Okazaki and Islam Slimani pushed the home side to a convincing victory.
Substitute Okazki – who came on in place of the injured Leonardo Ulloa – was just in the right place at the right time as he picked up a loose ball inside the penalty area to propel the Foxes ahead in the 65th minute, following which Slimani settled the third round tie 13 minutes later.
Liverpool are yet to see a victory in the month of September so far. Their next Premier League game will be against Leicester City as well, and it will be tough task to get back to winning ways after a worrisome four-game rut. The Hard Tackle takes a look at some of the best tweets regarding the match.
People saying EFL Cup is not worth it, we haven't won anything since 2012. We are not in a position to pick and choose. #LFC #YNWA #LEILIV

Twitter was also flooded with collective disappointment over the ineffectiveness of players like Philippe Coutinho, while Jurgen Klopp also received his fair share of criticism.

Coutinho foolishly dummies the ball in the box thinking someone would be behind him. Who does he think he plays for? Barcelona?!

You have Coutinho in the team and you're asking why you have 3 goals from 79 shots? 😂

Liverpool are playing like they've just bought Coutinho's in-form card on FUT and keep passing the ball to him to see what he can do.

However, one name dominated Twitter last night – Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain. He has been trolled time and again for his lack of impact on the field for Liverpool.

Oxlade-Chamberlain has taken two corners and both times he did a hand gesture to suggest a routine. Neither corner cleared the first man.

That awkward moment when you realise Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain wasn't worth £40 let alone £40m…. pic.twitter.com/nNDR2FVY01

Oxlade-Chamberlain hasn't won a game since the opening day of the season.

10 minute cameos, dropping points in the PL and then a start in the League Cup. It's just like Oxlade Chamberlain never left Arsenal.

Rio Ferdinand isn't the first person to do a sport he's not used to…
For instance Oxlade-Chamberlain has been having a go at football.

The irony of the fact Liverpool rejected a £40,000,001m offer for Luis Suarez then went on to pay £1 less for Oxlade Chamberlain 😂😂😂

Oxlade Chamberlain been dismal. Not expectin him to be Messi but come on! Couldnt even deliver a newspaper at this rate let alone a cross! 😤
