Kieran Tierney open to Celtic return

Arsenal defender Kieran Tierney has refused to rule out a return to Celtic in the future, stating he will always love the Glasgow club.

Kieran Tierney is one of Celtic’s brightest creations. The left-back has proven his worth in the Premier League with the Gunners. Before he joined Arsenal in the summer of 2019, the full-back won several trophies as a Bhoy and etched his name in the hearts of their fanbase.

After coming to Arsenal, Tierney won the FA Cup in his first season. He became the first-choice left-back. Since then, he has become a key player under Mikel Arteta. And had it not been for fitness issues, the left-back would have cemented his place in the side.

Despite that, many top clubs have shown an interest in previous windows. Those included Manchester City and Real Madrid, but Tierney chose to remain at Arsenal. He also signed a new contract in the summer of 2021, which lasts until 2026.

Tierney has not ruled out a possible return to Celtic in the future. The left-back’s comments appeared on Tribal Football. And he reiterated his love for Celtic and suggested that returning to the club may still be possible.

Tierney said, “I think when a player who loves the club leaves, there’s always that, ‘what if he comes back and you can’t rule anything out. I’m always going to love Celtic, I’m always going to support Celtic, so you never know in football, you genuinely don’t.”

Tierney then explained how he would have liked to bid farewell differently, as he carried an injury while joining Arsenal. He continued, ” “There was a stage I thought I would never leave Celtic; you never know what can happen like anything, you need to take it game by game. It was heartbreaking; it was tough.”

“There were nights where you struggle to sleep, and you’re thinking about it, not that you regret the decision but the reaction and how it’s panned out. You think you wish it was in a nicer way, or you could say goodbye in a different way. But that’s the way it panned out.”

For now, it is safe to assume Tierney is not considering an imminent return to Celtic. He has plenty of time to ponder and re-join them when his career pans out.

He remains on the books of Arsenal, and despite playing lesser minutes than anyone would have hoped, he remains an important part of the team. If his situation remains the same, one cannot rule out a move away from the Emirates in the immediate future.
