Former Arsenal striker Kevin Campbell has predicted that Everton might make a move for ex-Tottenham defender Serge Aurier.
In a recent interview with Goodison News, Kevin Campbell has offered his thoughts on Everton’s right-back conundrum, especially after the injury of Seamus Coleman. The former Arsenal striker has also claimed that the club may try and sign Serge Aurier in an attempt to alleviate their problems in the said department.
Already heading into this new season with few options at right-back, Everton were indeed dealt with a massive blow this week, as Seamus Coleman picked up a hamstring injury on Ireland duty. It leaves Rafael Benitez with no available option other than Jonjoe Kenny as well as the makeshift options in Ben Godfrey or Mason Holgate.
However, according to Kevin Campbell, who had featured in 155 competitive matches for the Toffees, Everton might make a move for Serge Aurier.
“That might be another thing for Serge Aurier on a free. Coleman has been such a fantastic performer, a stalwart for Everton but the injuries just keep racking up,” the former Arsenal striker said.
“The best ability is availability as a footballer, and the manager needs his players available – Seamus is well thought of, but if you’re not available, you’re no use,” he added.
Formerly of Paris Saint-Germain, Aurier is currently a free agent after being released by Tottenham Hotspur in the summer. He has been recently linked with a move to bitter rivals Arsenal, but it appears Everton might make a move for the Ivorian as they have no depth at all, in the right-back unit.
Aurier did not have much success during his time at Tottenham. But he certainly does bring experience to the table, and Everton boss Benitez has formidable experience working alongside questionable characters like himself, so signing the 28-year-old might not be the end of the world for the Merseyside giants.
Earlier in the transfer window, Everton were linked with a swoop for Arsenal’s Ainsley Maitland-Niles, but the move was blocked by the Gunners. The player’s subsequent story on Instagram caused quite a ruckus but with the transfer window closed, it appears Benitez has no option but to sign Aurier.

With the games coming thick and fast, the Toffees must move swiftly as well, and will certainly have to make do without a viable right-back when they play hosts to Burnley at Goodison Park on Monday.
