Jurgen Klopp reveals Liverpool are still interested in Fabio Carvalho after failing to sign the teenager on deadline day despite having an agreement with Fulham.

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp is satisfied with his club’s activity in the transfer market in January. The Reds sprang to life after a relatively quiet start when Tottenham looked close to signing Luis Diaz from Porto.

Klopp urged the club to move for the Colombian as Liverpool obliged the request and stole the forward from under Tottenham’s noses. The Reds signed Diaz in a big-money deal and then looked to close another signing as they wanted to acquire Fulham’s Fabio Carvalho in a cut-price move.

The teenager’s contract expires in six months, and Liverpool agreed a £5 million fee with Fulham. The transfer couldn’t be completed in time, however, despite Carvalho completing a medical.

With the move hitting a brick wall, Real Madrid are rumoured to be interested in the teenager, when he will be available on a free transfer in the summer. There could be even more teams who could join the queue to sign Carvalho when the season ends.

However, Klopp has now confirmed that Liverpool remain interested in Carvalho and could move in the summer. The German manager’s comments appeared on Goal.com as he revealed the Reds’ intention to pursue the deal again while pointing towards the club’s strategy in the transfer market.

Klopp said, “I don’t know. We will see. We are obviously still interested; it would be crazy if we are not. It’s obviously not in our hands. It was late before the deadline and it didn’t work out. We will see what happens.

“Our strategy is to sign the right players at the right moment. We recognise issues in terms of positions or contracts. We will never miss having a look ahead, that’s what we are doing.”

It remains to be seen whether Carvalho ends up a Red or decides to wear another club’s shirt when he leaves Fulham. However, if a club of Real Madrid’s stature comes into the picture, it could make it difficult even for Liverpool to convince the player.
