Julen Lopetegui seems to have ruled himself out of the running for the Manchester United job, insisting he has no doubts about his Sevilla future.
Manchester United are making fans anxious as speculations over the appointment of the next manager continue to mount. After recent talks with at least two prime candidates, the club have made several inroads with their search for the next full-time boss.
First, it was Erik ten Hag, who remains the firm favourite for the job. The Dutchman has been reportedly irked by Manchester United’s apparent delay in offering him a contract, although the club is evaluating other shortlisted candidates before finalising.
Manchester United have reportedly held talks with Mauricio Pochettino, which confirms their intention to assess their top candidates before announcing the preferred choice for the hot seat. Since his Tottenham days, the Argentine has been linked with a move to Old Trafford and could end up back in England this summer.
Sevilla boss Julen Lopetegui is also on the shortlist of candidates alongside Spain national team manager Luis Enrique. Both Spaniards are set to pass up on the opportunity, with Lopetegui coming out to rule himself out of contention. As quoted by Manchester Evening News, the Sevilla boss confirmed his intention to stay in Spain next season.

Lopetegui said, “The [speculation], I can’t help it. I am where I want to be. Continue on the Sevilla bench next season? I have no doubt.”
Lopetegui has had an impressive spell at Sevilla, helping them win the UEFA Europa League during his time there. Incidentally, his team beat Manchester United in the semi-finals on route to the title. The former Spanish national team boss has long been considered by Premier League sides, although he remains settled in La Liga.
Erik ten Hag is the favourite when it comes to the choice of fans and pundits. Mauricio Pochettino may have the benefit of extensive Premier League experience and managing some big-name stars during his career. But stylistically, the Dutchman takes the lead.
It remains to be seen who eventually gets the job, as, from the looks of it, Pochettino and ten Hag are the final candidates for the position. Once the board evaluates their options based on what they have seen from the talks held with both candidates, a decision could be made in the next weeks.
