AS Roma manager Jose Mourinho has remained coy on links to Manchester United midfielder Nemanja Matic ahead of the summer transfer window.

Speaking to Sky Sports (h/t Manchester Evening News), AS Roma manager Jose Mourinho has addressed the transfer rumours linking his club with a summer move for Manchester United midfielder Nemanja Matic.

Matic joined Manchester United from Chelsea in 2017, with Mourinho being the man in charge at Old Trafford at the time. The Serbian has proven to be a valuable signing for the Red Devils over the years even if his importance has waned in the past year and a half or so. And with a new era set to begin under Erik ten Hag from next season onwards, the veteran midfielder is set to move on in the summer.

Indeed, Matic has agreed to mutually terminate his contract with Manchester United at the end of the season and leave on a free transfer. And ever since the former Chelsea ace confirmed his decision, rumours have been rife about a potential reunion with Mourinho at AS Roma.

It does not come as a surprise considering that it was Mourinho who brought Matic back to Chelsea when the Portuguese returned to Stamford Bridge for his second stint as manager. He then recruited him at Manchester United and is reportedly eyeing another reunion with the Serbian in the Italian capital.

Reports have even claimed that the 33-year-old has already been offered to Roma. Mourinho, though, has refused to give away anything about the transfer speculations and has remained coy on the matter.

When asked about the links with Matic, the former Chelsea, Real Madrid and Manchester United manager said: “I never like to speak about players. I don’t think it’s good for me, for the club, for the players.

“Everybody knows my relation with Nemanja, he is one of the guys of my trust. We worked together we fought together in United and he is a fantastic player. But that is the kind of answer that is not good for me or for the player.”

Matic will leave Manchester United after five seasons, during which he has made close to 200 appearances. However, during this period, the Red Devils failed to win even a single trophy.
