Inter Milan legend Walter Zenga has urged his former club to sign Tottenham shot-stopper Guglielmo Vicario.
Tottenham once again find themselves struggling towards the bottom end of the Premier League table after finishing 17th last season. While winning the Europa League under Ange Postecoglou saved the season last time out, things don’t look that promising this time around.
Failing to secure a European spot could cost them big time. Not only will it be a massive financial blow, but it will also result in the departure of a few of their key players. Guglielmo Vicario is one of the players who could push for a move away if they are not competing in Europe next term.
With Vicario expected to be on the move, multiple top clubs have been linked with the Italian shot-stopper. Inter Milan are one of the leading candidates for his signature. The Serie A giants seek more quality and depth in goal, and the 29-year-old is seen as an ideal fit for their setup.
Despite being error-prone, Vicario has certainly made quite a name for himself. The Italian international finds himself on the wishlist of some of the biggest clubs in Europe.
Inter Milan have emerged as a potential destination. They were gearing up to make an offer for the former Empoli shot-stopper in the winter transfer window. However, things didn’t go according to plan for them.
Vicario could spark a bidding war
Inter could revive their interest in the youngster ahead of next season. Yann Sommer is already 37, and with his contract running out, the Italian giants do need to bring in a new shot-stopper. Vicario can certainly help their cause, and their former shot-stopper, Walter Zenga, has urged the club to make him a priority target for the summer.
While speaking about Inter’s goalkeeping situation on Gazzetta dello Sport, Zenga said via TEAMtalk: “With an Italian goalkeeper: Vicario and Marco Carnesecchi in the front row, then Elia Caprile.”
Zenga feels Vicario could be just the perfect fit for the Serie A giants. He has had his ups and downs at Tottenham, but of late, he has been a constant feature in the XI. The 29-year-old hasn’t missed a minute all season long.
If Tottenham fail to secure European football, Vicario will be one of the first players to push for an exit. While his contract runs until 2028, Spurs might be open to the Italian’s departure as it will help them bring in an upgrade in that position.
