Ian Graham insists any club that tries to sign Harry Kane ‘doesn’t care about value for money’ amid links to Manchester United and Real Madrid.
Dr Ian Graham, Liverpool’s director of research, has given his insight on the ongoing speculation involving Harry Kane. The club chief also commented on the possibility of the Reds signing Kylian Mbappe, suggesting he’s out of their league from a financial standpoint.
He had a similar view of Kane, who will enter the final year of his contract at Tottenham. Club chairman Daniel Levy has indicated they will not sell their star striker, as he could let him run down his contract. However, figures in excess of £100 million have been mooted in the media.
Dr Graham said any team that tries to sign Kane is irresponsible with their finances. He told Cheltenham Science Festival via 90 Mins that Kane might start declining soon and will not represent value for the price tags reported in the media.

Dr Graham added, “He’s 29. It’s going to be a high transfer fee for three years of performance that might start declining.”
“From a data point of view, it’s magnificent the way Alex Ferguson constructed a team that was ageing just as he left [Manchester United]. It really did cement his legacy.”
Real Madrid may have taken the cue and cooled their interest in the 29-year-old target going by recent reports. They might also feel the outlay may not represent value for the money and will not want to repeat their mistake with Eden Hazard, which has cost them an enormous transfer fee in addition to his huge wages.
Real Madrid may yet pursue Kane if Tottenham agrees to lower their asking price, which at present stands at over £100 million. Meanwhile, Manchester United are also ready to shelve their plans for Kane, as they are still uncertain about their finances and takeover status.
Overall, it looks like Kane might stay at Tottenham beyond the summer and decide about his future later. He might join a rival for free in 2024 or even decide on signing a new deal in north London.
