Gus Poyet offers to become interim Tottenham manager

Tottenham Hotspur are going through a difficult patch right now, and their interim manager, Igor Tudor, has failed to deliver since taking over.

Igor Tudor was brought in as a replacement for Thomas Frank, and he was expected to turn things around. So far, there has been no improvement in terms of performance or results. Tottenham are now in a serious fight for survival, and it will be interesting to see if they can beat the drop.

A club of their stature should be doing a lot better. There have been rumours of another managerial change before the season is over. Former Chelsea and Tottenham midfielder Gus Poyet has now thrown his hat into the ring, but he has said he would be open to managing the club and helping them stay up in the Premier League.

The 58-year-old could be an underwhelming appointment for Tottenham, and it remains to be seen what they decide.

When asked if he would take the Tottenham job, Poyet said via The Sun, “With respect to Igor, yes – for sure. I mean, I know everything. Sometimes they don’t put me in that position.

“But you know, I remember before Igor Tudor got the job, people were talking about Robbie Keane – rightly so. They were talking about Tim Sherwood – rightly so. Even Harry Redknapp, they were asking him.

“And I was sitting at home and I’m thinking, ‘Why not me?’ I’ve been there. I know the place, I know the relegation battle. I know what needs to be done. Well, at least I have the experience. I know the Premier League. It’s sometimes funny that your name is not related there, but that’s the way it is now.

“You need to put yourself in the press. If they think it’s me [for the job] I would be more than happy but it wasn’t me. And now the only thing that I want as a coach is for Igor Tudor to sort it out for him, as a coach. To have that feeling that he sorted it out and Tottenham stay up. Nothing else.”

Tottenham have quality players at their disposal, but they need a manager who can bring out the best in the team. They should be more ambitious when appointing their manager. It will be interesting to see if they can bring in someone who can help them get back on track.

Gus Poyet’s appointment is unlikely to lift the spirits around the club, and it will be very surprising if Tottenham decide to appoint him as their next manager. Recent reports have also linked the North London club with other possible interim head coaches, including Ryan Mason.
