Former Liverpool player says Mohamed Salah is jealous of him

Dejan Lovren reveals Mohamed Salah is ‘jealous’ to not feature at the World Cup, as the Croatian speaks about his former teammate from Qatar.

The World Cup is a huge event that many top players end up missing. Among others, stars like Erling Haaland and Mohamed Salah are absent in the middle eastern nation after their nations failed to qualify.

Salah is one of the players the spectators will miss in action in Qatar, while many of his Liverpool teammates will participate. Egypt failed to live up to expectations despite coming agonisingly close to qualifying for the grand event.

The no-show in Qatar would have come as a blow for Salah and Egypt, who also lost out to Senegal in the AFCON earlier this year. The winger will remain with Liverpool and enjoy some time off from the game before returning to a warm weather camp supposedly arranged in Dubai.

The Egyptian was a hot topic of discussion during the World Cup as the press quizzed former Liverpool teammate and Croatian international Dejan Lovren about the winger.

In Football Daily’s tweet, a journalist asked the defender whether Salah was ‘jealous’ to not feature in Qatar.

He asked, “Is Salah jealous that you’re here and he isn’t?”

Lovren responded, “100% I would also be jealous.”.

Lovren is probably playing in his last World Cup with Croatia and will aim to replicate the team’s performances from 2018. Back then, the Europeans reached the Final but lost to France in a thrilling game in Moscow.

The Croatians will start the Qatar World Cup campaign with a clash against African side Morroco and aim to start the group stages on a winning note. They are in a tough group comprising Canada and Belgium.

On paper, they are one of the two sides expected to go through to the next round, but Croatia will have to have a positive start to the tournament. Lovren will hope to use his experience in Qatar to overcome challenges posed by a rather indifferent World Cup owing to multiple factors.
