Folarin Balogun open to Arsenal departure

Folarin Balogun remains open to departing Arsenal in the summer after a tremendous 18-goal season in Ligue 1.

Folarin Balogun has truly impressed with his goalscoring numbers in France, as Arsenal fans are already excited about his potential. The Hale End academy star always had talent with the youth sides, but his time with the first team always had something missing.

Tie circumstances of the few times he has played under Arteta were different and unfavourable for Balogun to flourish. However, now that the team has a positive aura, the manager could integrate the striker’s talents into the system.

Arteta must be thinking about Balogun, particularly after his exploits in France. Nobody expected the Arsenal prospect to have such an impact. This season, the 18-goal star is only behind Kylian Mbappe and Jonathan David in the Ligue 1 charts.

A host of Serie A sides have shown interest in signing him next season, while there could also be admiration from other clubs. His future will certainly become a subject of speculation when the season ends, with Arteta set to decide on the 18-goal forward.

Balogun pulled out of the England U-21 with an injury with the international break in full swing. He has travelled to the US, where the USMNT are trying to lure him into their setup. However, in some of the comments that appeared on 90min, his Arsenal future seems unclear.

Balogun said, “Contractually, I have to go back,” he said. “Because the loan was only for one year, so that was always the agreement. But I wouldn’t, um, I’m not sure what is going to happen in the future. A lot could happen in football, a lot could change. It just depends on the conversations we have between me and the club in the summer, and we’ll see what happens.”

“Yeah, I mean, there’s no door that’s closed. Of course, I have had a good year here, and to a lot of people, it makes sense for me to come back here. So yeah, I mean, I don’t know what the future will bring. But definitely, I would advise young players to come out here.”

“It’s a really, really tough league, a league that will help you to improve. You get to play in crazy atmospheres. If you’re ready to take yourself out of your comfort zone, I would advise any young player, I would advise any young player to come here.”

Arsenal are already linked with Rasmus Hojlund, who could become a direct replacement for Balogun. However, with his performances in Ligue 1, the 18-goal Arsenal prospect surely deserves a shot at this team under Arteta.

Balogun will surely have plenty of suitors, and Arsenal may consider a sale if a mammoth offer comes in. However, Arteta would want to try and integrate him into this side, but anything on his future will have to wait until the summer.
