Former Ajax star Donny van de Beek has offered updates on his future at Manchester United ahead of the January transfer window.

Donny van de Beek might no longer be a part of Erik ten Hag’s plans at Manchester United. The former Ajax star has been on the pitch for just 21 minutes this season. He has been linked with a move away from the Manchester-based club. And, the player has recently provided updates on his future.

Van de Beek joined Manchester United in 2020 for a fee of £40 million. The Red Devils signed him from Ajax with a lot of expectations. But, things haven’t gone according to plan for the 26-year-old. He has failed to impress in his limited opportunities and of late, injuries haven’t helped his cause.

He played little football last season because of a serious injury. And, despite being back to full fitness, the Dutch international is not getting enough minutes this season. As a result, he has decided to part ways with the Manchester-based club in the winter transfer window.

Van de Beek on his future via 90min: “I have to start playing matches very soon, if not at Manchester United, then at another club,”

“I think this is a healthy ambition.

“Look, I’ve always been an enthusiast. I’m absolutely crazy about football. I earn a good living at Manchester United, but money has never been my motivation. I want to enjoy my work every day.

“Last season I was sidelined for months due to my knee injury. You miss it terribly and appreciate even more that you have a wonderful profession. I am at a legendary club and I am still proud every day to wear the Manchester United shirt. But I’m bursting with energy now that I’m in great shape again and I’m training like crazy. Then the moment comes when you have to make a choice.

“I’m excited to play matches again. The manager now makes different choices. We have a great selection and I’m not the only one knocking on the door. We’ll see what happens in January.”

The 26-year-old midfielder has made it pretty clear that if he doesn’t get enough game time at United, he will look for a new club elsewhere. Despite having struggled at the Manchester-based club right from the start, the Dutch international has quite a positive image of the club.

He is grateful to be playing for a club of such a big stature but he is still keen on getting regular first-team action. As a result, Van de Beek will push for a move elsewhere. There was interest in the 26-year-old’s services from Spain during the summer.

Real Sociedad were interested in acquiring his services. They wanted to sign him on a simple loan deal. But, the move collapsed because United wanted a permanent purchase clause in the deal. Sociedad could return for his services in the winter and there are a few other clubs that would love to have him in their ranks.
