David de Gea has regained his spot in the Manchester United lineup for the foreseeable future, as he revels in the competition provided by Dean Henderson.

For much of last season, David de Gea received plenty of criticism from pundits and experts alike for his performances. Some sections of the fan base seemingly lost faith in the Spanish star, despite his reliable performances between the sticks for most of the decade.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was swift in his decision making last season after allowing plenty of time to de Gea to arrest his sloppy form. However, Dean Henderson, fresh from a terrific season on loan at Sheffield United, waited on the wings to grab his chance.

Solskjaer replaced de Gea in the second half of last season and preferred Henderson in his place. The English star did provide encouraging performances and made many believe it could be the end of de Gea’s era at Old Trafford. However, the Spanish international has turned the tide around and regained his place in the lineup.

A solid start to the current season has seen United secure 10 points from their four games so far. De Gea has played a crucial role, making some critical saves along the way. His displays have finally convinced many he was worth the big contract United signed him on for.

Transfer market web recently posted comments made by de Gea regarding his situation at the club. The Spain star sounded happy with his performances while credited his fellow keepers for intense competition.

De Gea said, “I’ve played here with many great goalkeepers, and the fight between keepers, we must always fight for our positions. United want to be ambitious and bring in the best players then we must fight for our positions.”

De Gea also discussed the influence of new signing Cristiano Ronaldo on the team.

He said, “It’s great to have Cristiano back home. I think it shows from the first day the impact; he scored two very important goals and the qualities you know. The experience of Cristiano is amazing, he’s a legend at the club already, and it’s great to have him back. It’s massive for us.”
