David de Gea has insisted he would like to remain at Manchester United for many more years while commenting on his future at the club.

Manchester United continue searching for consistent form across all competitions after a topsy-turvy start to the 2022/23 campaign. Having endured some morale-sapping losses at the start, Erik ten Hag has managed to steady the ship with a good run of results.

During those early defeats to Brighton & Hove Albion and Brentford, David de Gea came in for criticism. The Spanish veteran was guilty of letting in at least two goals cheaply in the Brentford game, but he has since revived his form.

While he has been a constant presence between the sticks in the last 18 months, question marks have been raised regarding his long-term future. There are clubs willing to sign him if he becomes available. De Gea, for now, is heading towards a more delicate situation with Manchester United.

Some have suggested ten Hag will prefer a ball-playing goalkeeper between the sticks. Such a notion has cast doubt over de Gea’s future at Manchester United, where he has made over 490 senior appearances.

After Manchester United’s victory over Everton, de Gea was asked about his future at the club. Without giving many details, the veteran goalkeeper said that he will prefer to remain at Old trafford for more years. His comments appeared on the Manchester Evening News, where the Spaniard seemed content with his current situation.

When asked about a new contract, de Gea said, “I’m just very focused on the games helping the team as much as I can. Of course, I would like to be here for more years, so let’s see what happens in the future. I’m really, really happy here.”

De Gea’s contract expires in 2023, but Manchester United have the option of extending his deal by a further season. What remains to be seen is whether the club will take up the option, although things will be clear as the season progresses.

There have been rumours the club are looking for a new goalkeeper, but no target has been mentioned by Manchester Evening News. However, there have not been indications of Manchester United sorting out de Gea’s future, which puts his future in doubt.
