Daniel James has opened up about his move from Manchester United to Leeds United and Marcelo Bielsa, in an interview.
Speaking to Daily Telegraph, Daniel James has finally offered his thoughts on his exit from Manchester United and the decision to join Leeds United. He further opened up about his prospects at Elland Road while also praising Marcelo Bielsa and his tactical philosophy.
James made the headlines on deadline day when he left Old Trafford in favour of a permanent move to Leeds United. His transfer came in the aftermath of Cristiano Ronaldo’s return to Manchester United, which forced the player to look elsewhere for regular opportunities.
James now believes that Leeds United could be the ideal destination for him, further stressing that he is ready for this new chapter in his career. He also shed light on the failed move to Elland Road two and a half years ago.
“Two and a half years ago I nearly signed for the club and a couple of weeks later I played there with Swansea and had goosebumps that day because I’ve never experienced in a game someone chanting an opposition player’s name,” James recalls.
“So going through that, having been on the other team then, it’s going to be great to see what it’s like now I’m actually playing for Leeds. I can’t wait to be at Elland Road,” the former Manchester United forward added.
The Welshman, who left Manchester United after making 74 competitive appearances for the club, is highly rated by Marcelo Bielsa. The Argentine tactician had even tried everything he could to secure his services before he joined Manchester United. James now feels grateful that the Leeds United coach still believes in his abilities, despite a disappointing spell at Old Trafford.
“It’s great for him to still believe in me after two and a half years. I’ve spoken to Tyler to get a bit of insight and I’m trying to do as much research while I’m away to get an insight into how players in my positions play and what actions they make. I think you always want a little bit of insight before you go in about how things work but everyone knows from the outside that it’s hard work.”
