Cristiano Ronaldo has taken a vile dig at his former Manchester United teammate Wayne Rooney in an interview with Piers Morgan.
As relayed by Daily Mail, the Manchester United striker hit back at Rooney after the former United captain questioned his attitude recently. Ronaldo’s stock has vastly fallen this season as the striker hasn’t been the preferred choice at Old Trafford this time.
The 37-year-old has fallen down the pecking order and due to his lack of pre-season, the player struggled to get into his shape as United had a pretty lacklustre start to their current campaign.
The Red Devils have stabilized their ship since then but Ronaldo hasn’t really replicated his last season’s feat when he embraced the challenge a became the second-highest goal scorer in the Premier League.
His tantrums started in the summer and continued in the midst of the campaign as he refused to make him available as a substitute and went down the tunnel during a game.
He was subsequently dropped for the Chelsea game but was allowed to reintegrate into the squad but the latest incident would be a big hit to his United legacy.
Rooney advised Ronaldo that he should focus on his game rather than complaining.
“Him and Messi are arguably the two best players of all-time and you can go either way with that, whatever way you decide.
“I’ve seen Roy Keane defending him. Roy wouldn’t accept that. Roy wouldn’t accept that at all.
“It is a distraction which Manchester United don’t need at the minute, trying to rebuild. For Cristiano, just get your head down and work and be ready to play when the manager needs you.
“If he does that, he will be an asset. If he doesn’t, it will become an unwanted distraction.”
Ronaldo answered Rooney’s comments in the interview as the 37-year-old said:
“I don’t know why he criticises me so badly… probably because he finished his career and I’m still playing at a high level.
“I’m not going to say that I’m looking better than him. Which is true…”
