One of the highlights of the Manchester derby in the round of 16 of the League Cup was veteran midfielder Michael Carrick outpacing Argentine striker Sergio Aguero.

Juan Mata’s second-half goal gave Manchester United a much needed 1-0 win against rivals Manchester City in the fourth round of the EFL Cup. The victory takes them to the quarter-final, where they will face West Ham United at Old Trafford.

The usually attack-minded Man City failed to register a single shot on target in 90 minutes. An even bigger shock during the game was when 35-year-old Michael Carrick managed to outpace Sergio Aguero, who had been substituted on a few minutes prior to the incident. Amazingly, Carrick had started the game and already had 85 minutes under his belt.

Fans on Twitter were quick to pick up on this unbelievable feat by one of Man United’s fan favourites.
