Bruno Fernandes calls upon Manchester United to sign SL Benfica ace Goncalo Ramos
According to Sportv via Mais Futebol (h/t Sport Witness), Manchester United superstar Bruno Fernandes has called upon the club to make a summer move for Portuguese ace Goncalo Ramos.
The Benfica striker has impressed for the Liga Portuguese giants this season, scoring 19 goals and making seven assists in 30 league appearances as they secured the top-division title. In many ways, he rose to the occasion after Darwin Nunez moved to Liverpool last summer.
Ramos was also part of the Portuguese squad that made it to the quarter-final of the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar. He scored a stunning hat-trick against Switzerland in the round of 16, further highlighting his vast potential.
Still just 21, Ramos has much to develop and has all the makings of a serial goalscorer. Manchester United have been tracking him all season and now are being pushed by their Portuguese ace Fernandes to make their move.
Fernandes has little doubt that Ramos is destined for the top and believes the 21-year-old has the attributes t succeed. He went on to add that moving to a more competitive league is likely to be the youngster’s litmus test but also backed him to come out on top.
If he continues to work as he has worked so far, I believe he has the potential to be one of the best strikers in the world. He’s already close to that level, but he still needs to go to a more competitive league and prove it there. I believe he has all the capabilities for that.
He hinted that a player of Ramos’s abilities will thrive at Old Trafford. But then, as a player, Fernandes is in no position to dictate the club’s recruitment strategy. His message, however, remains loud and clear.
“He has all the qualities to play in the Premier League and when I say Premier League I also mean Manchester United. I think he could become a great reference in the coming years, but it’s still not in my hands to be sports director. When I become one, I will make those decisions.”
Manchester United lacks a reliable number nine and could do with one in the summer. Wout Weghorst has proven himself to be a dud while Anthony Martial is more injured than prolific. Marcus Rashford is better deployed out wide and is largely a lost cause upfront.
In Ramos, the Red Devils can land themselves a long-term solution to their goalscoring woes. Whether that happens or not remains to be seen.
