Spanish international Dani Olmo has opened up on his future at RB Leipzig amidst links to former club Barcelona.

Speaking to Sport BILD (h/t BuLi News), RB Leipzig and Spain attacking midfielder Dani Olmo has addressed the speculation surrounding his future amid interest from La Liga giants Barcelona.

The 23-year-old spent seven years in the Catalans’ La Masia youth setup between 2007 and 2014, but opted to move to Dinamo Zagreb at a very young age to continue his development and enjoy a faster breakthrough into the first team. The move worked wonders for the Spaniard, as he became one of the best young attacking midfielders in Europe before earning a move to RB Leipzig in January 2020.

Over the past two years, he has continued his progression, even though there have been minor setbacks along the way. In 78 appearances for the Bundesliga outfit, he has scored 15 goals and registered 18 assists. Olmo has also established a foothold in the Spanish national team, earning 18 caps for La Roja since his debut in November 2019.

Olmo’s growth and development since his departure from La Masia has not been lost on Barcelona, who have been heavily linked with a move to re-sign him since last summer. The Catalans spoke with Leipzig over a possible transfer in 2021, but a move failed to materialise. However, their interest has not waned, with reports a couple of months ago claiming that an offer was being prepared.

However, the Spanish international has now addressed the speculation surrounding his future, insisting that he has a contract with Leipzig and is currently happy at the club.

“I am not in a hurry!” insisted Olmo. “I am very happy here and I still have a contract until 2024. I see no reason to leave this summer and find a new club. After all, I’ve just experienced how quickly things can happen. I’ve had six tough months, and I’m happy to be playing again now. I’m just focusing on the games and not on anything else.”

“I want to play Champions League the most, that’s clear, and the same goes for everyone here. We have that goal, and I’m sure we’ll achieve it this year.”

Olmo’s current contract with RB Leipzig runs until the summer of 2024. Apart from Barcelona, there have also been links to their rivals Real Madrid.
