Gabriel Agbonlahor insists Alexandre Lacazette does not offer many goals and that Arsenal should get rid of him.
Alexandre Lacazette would essentially make an exit at the end of the season unless Arsenal receive a reliable offer in the January window. The club are keen to sell him as they risk losing him on a free transfer at the end of the season when his contract expires, and as things stand, that might be the case.
The Frenchman was key in Arsenal’s comeback draw against Crystal Palace, scoring with virtually the game’s last touch. The strike was his ninth goal from the bench, with only Olivier Giroud scoring more after coming on as a substitute.
He has lost his regular place in Mikel Arteta’s side after the manager kept choosing Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang with regularity. Lacazette has barely played in the Premier League and is yet to start a single game this season. However, the manager still considers him integral to his plans.
But, the club might sell him on in the January window if a reliable offer comes in. The striker is well placed to leave the club at the end of the season on the free transfer, as he will certainly have decent offers from English clubs and from across Europe next summer.
He surely is a quality striker who is attracting interest from clubs such as Everton and West Ham United, although he might be tempted to leave for an even bigger club such as Atletico Madrid.
Former Aston Villa striker Gabriel Agbonlahor believes the club should get rid of him quickly and replace him with a better, younger striker. The pundit feels Lacazette does not score more goals when he is afforded starts and offers less offensive potential to Arsenal. Speaking to Football Insider, Agbonlahor made his feeling regarding the Frenchman clear.
Agbonlahor said, “I would get rid of him. Lacazette comes on and gets the odd goal, but when he starts, he does nothing. It’s alright coming on and geeing up the fans and doing this and that, but since he’s been there, he’s not been good enough.
“He doesn’t score enough goals as an Arsenal striker given what they’ve had in the past. For me, I would replace him and get someone younger and better in. You start Lacazette in the next game, and he probably won’t score or even have a decent game. When he comes on, he might have a little impact.
“The goal he scored [against Crystal Palace] was not a difficult goal to score; it was a tap in. Arsenal need to change quite a few players in that team.”
