Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has heaped praise on goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale for his performance against Leicester City.
Speaking to the media after the game, Mikel Arteta offered his thoughts on the performance of Aaron Ramsdale shortly after the win over Leicester City. The Arsenal manager has heaped praise on the goalkeeper for starring in the victory and helping his team get over the line.
Ramsdale’s performance was indeed vital as the Gunners extended their unbeaten run to nine games in all competitions by securing a 2-0 win over Leicester City. The former Sheffield United goalkeeper looked in imperious touch, as he made multiple saves to deny the Foxes and retain his clean sheet.
Speaking to the press after the game, as cited by Transfer Market Web, Arteta expressed his delight with Ramsdale’s performances since joining Emirates in the summer. “We invest money in talent and people we believe can be great for the future of the club.
“We made that decision based on that and Aaron has had some really encouraging performances, and today he had some incredible saves to maintain the clean sheet and he needs to continue to do that. In football you have to play 50 games for 20 years, and this is only the start,” he said.

The Spaniard was also asked about Ramsdale’s save to deny James Maddison’s free-kick, which has garnered a lot of attention in the footballing sphere. Former Manchester United goalkeeper and the father of Leicester City shot-stopper Peter Schmeichel even hailed it as one of the saves of the season.
“I have just seen a picture, I haven’t seen the video footage but my reaction there when I saw the ball leaving Maddison’s foot, I said, ‘Goal’. So I don’t know how it happened, it was incredible – and the moment and the timing of it as well was crucial,” said Arteta, when asked about the save.
The Arsenal manager went on to talk about Ramsdale’s chances of making it into the England team, stating: “I think when you dream big, it is always positive. Keep your feet in the earth, there are people who make those decisions but he needs to be doing what he’s doing every day. Train the way he trains, look after himself the way he does, have that mentality he has, and good performances. The rest will come.”
Aaron Ramsdale is currently behind Jordan Pickford as England’s number one choice in between the sticks. However, with the Englishman performing at a top level, it won’t be surprising to see a shift in the hierarchy by the start of next year’s 2022 FIFA World Cup.
