Antonio Conte has praised Harry Kane after the England captain put in a powerful performance against Brighton & Hove Albion in the FA Cup.
Tottenham have shown massive signs of improvements in recent weeks despite some major setbacks along the way. Since Antonio Conte took over as manager, Spurs have left their difficult run under Nuno Espirito Santo behind and have again looked like a strong team in the country.
They have faced some setbacks along the way, namely their ouster from the UEFA Europa Conference League and the semi-final defeats to Chelsea over two legs in the Carabao Cup. Tottenham are still in with a shout to finish in the top four and progress in the FA Cup.
On Saturday night, Spurs came out as comfortable winners against Brighton, with Harry Kane proving to be decisive once more. The England captain scored twice to ease the pressure on his team and help the north Londoners progress into the fifth round of the competition.
Conte, who recently earmarked Kane to be the most important player in his team, seems to be very happy with the striker’s contributions. After a slow start to the season for the frontman amid links with Manchester City last summer, the Tottenham talisman is hitting his stride once more.
Kane looks more like his usual self of late, and Conte has now heaped praise on his hitman again after the performance shown against Brighton. Speaking to the media after the game, the Tottenham manager’s comments about the England captain appeared on Daily Mail, as he hailed the striker’s hard-working mentality.
Conte said, “Harry, in the past, in the games that he didn’t score, I liked his performance. Harry is a player who’s scored a lot in the past as a number nine. But what we can appreciate – me and the whole team – is his attitude and commitment for the entire team. I think this is the most important thing for us.”
“Then, for sure, to score two goals is important because he’s number nine; he’s used to scoring goals. We are working on the physical condition with the team. We’re trying to improve the intensity, also during the training sessions. I think all these situations can improve the performance with all the players.”
Whether Kane can continue his solid run of form to inspire Tottenham to a strong end to the season remains to be seen. For now, he is going from strength to strength. And Conte will hope his star striker will retain peak performance levels.
