Anthony Elanga has discussed the possibility of a move to Newcastle United with fellow Swedish international Alexander Isak.
Anthony Elanga has taken his game to another level since making the move to Nottingham Forest last summer. His consistent performances for the Tricky Trees have put him on the radar of multiple top clubs and Newcastle United are one of the clubs that showcased interest in signing him during the recently concluded transfer window.

The Magpies wanted to further bolster their attack after a disappointing season last time out. Having watched the former Manchester United winger do wonders for Nottingham last season, Eddie Howe was keen on signing him.
While the Tyneside club did make an attempt to sign him on deadline day. The move fell through but Newcastle have retained interest and could return for him in 2025.
Elanga who is currently on international duty talked about the Magpies’ interest in his services. While speaking to Fotboll Skanalen, the 22-year-old said: “The environment in Nottingham is good. It is clear that you can see that Newcastle are interested, it means that I am playing good football when a big club shows interest. But Nottingham is also a big club, they have won two Champions Leagues, even though it was before I was born. But I’m happy in Nottingham and have a contract there.”
“I’m focusing on Nottingham and hope to have a good season, then we’ll see what happens.”
While things didn’t work out for the Swedish international at Manchester United, the move to Nottingham in the summer of 2023 allowed him to showcase his true potential. In his 36 league outings last season, he scored five goals and even bagged nine assists.
His performances didn’t go unnoticed and the Magpies did push hard to sign him. But, they couldn’t strike a deal with the Tricky Trees. While Nottingham did manage to keep hold of the 22-year-old, a future move can’t be ruled out a Eddie Howe’s team retain their interest in his services.

During the interview with Fotboll Skanalen, Elanga was also asked if he had spoken to compatriot and Newcastle star Alexander Isak about a move to the Tyneside club. The former United winger revealed that a conversation did take place between the two.
“Isak talked to me about it. But I said the same to him as I say to you. We have a good relationship and good chemistry when we play together. But I have a contract with Nottingham.”
While Elanga is well aware of Newcastle’s interest in his services and has talked about it with Isak, he is focused on the task at hand. The 22-year-old wants to do his best for Nottingham where he has a contract until the summer of 2028. The Swedish international is gearing up for an important season with the Tricky Trees but he might not be around for long as a move to the Magpies in the future can’t be ruled out.
