Crystal Palace could target Kieran McKenna as a potential replacement for Pierre Sage should the Frenchman lose his role in the coming period.
According to a report by Football Insider, Kieran McKenna is the latest name to emerge on Crystal Palace’s shortlist of potential Pierre Sage replacements. The latter is under immense pressure over his job, and unless he executes a massive turnaround in fortunes for the club, there are significant chances he could be replaced in the coming period.
Pierre Sage is probably walking on thin ice with regards to his role at Crystal Palace following a raft of bad results of late. The 5-0 loss to Brighton & Hove Albion has been particularly damaging for the Frenchman, with the pressure at an all-time high for the Palace boss, and a number of replacements already being mentioned in media reports.
There have been multiple reports with numerous candidates as Sage’s replacement, including former Wolves boss Rob Edwards. At the moment, Palace have not directly indicated their willingness to sack the Frenchman, although the rising pressure from the media could have a telling effect on proceedings.
Sean Dyche is also a reported target, while other names like former Brentford and Spurs boss Thomas Frank are also viewed as an option. Overall, Crystal Palace may have multiple options for consideration, with a new candidate appearing in media reports.
Kieran McKenna to replace Pierre Sage?
Kieran McKenna’s name was mentioned recently as an option, with the former Ipswich boss and 40-year-old ex-Manchester United coach currently on a break. After helping the Tractor Boys gain promotion back to the Premier League, McKenna decided to take a step back from the club.
The 40-year-old is eager to pursue top-flight management in the near future, and could be receptive to offers. McKenna was of interest to multiple other clubs, including rumoured links to Chelsea and Manchester United in the past, which is an indicator of how highly rated he is.
While he continues to wait on for the right role, taking over an established team like Palace may prove the way forward for McKenna to further his career. More importantly, the Eagles will also offer him a chance to manage in a European competition, as the Selhurst Park role could prove highly attractive for the 40-year-old ex-Manchester United coach.
At the moment, the club are yet to make a concerted decision on Sage’s future, and the next few games could become extremely important for the Frenchman. Should the club dismiss the former RC Lens manager from his role, names like McKenna will be under heavy consideration as Palace’s next manager.
