Tottenham Hotspur are going through a difficult run of form, and they are fighting for survival in the Premier League.
Tottenham Hotspur decided to appoint Igor Tudor as their interim manager until the end of the season after sacking Thomas Frank. However, the Croatian tactician has not been able to get the out of his players. So, Spurs are struggling and in serious danger of going down.
Naturally, they are desperate to turn things and they are looking at another manager. It appears that Roberto De Zerbi is a top target for them. However, the Italian tactician is unwilling to take over at this stage of the season, and he would prefer to wait until the summer.
The 46-year-old was relieved of his duties by Marseille in February, and he is in no hurry to return to management. Also, he believes that it would be ideal to wait until the summer before joining Tottenham. They are going through a difficult patch right now, and the Italian will not be able to impose his ideas immediately.
Roberto De Zerbi is a quality manager
There is no doubt that the 46-year-old is a quality manager, and he impressed with his attacking football at Brighton & Hove Albion. Tottenham have the players to execute his style of football, and he could help them bounce back strongly next season.
In his first full season at Brighton, De Zerbi helped them secure a top-six finish, the highest in the club’s history. Across his first year, Brighton scored 76 goals (3rd in PL), registered 624 shots (1st), 244 shots on target (1st), racked up 74.7 expected goals (xG) (2nd), held an average possession of 62% (2nd), and clocked up 1228 touches in the opposition box (3rd).
Pete O’Rourke has now addressed the speculation surrounding Tottenham and De Zerbi in his latest update on Football Insider.
Pete O’Rourke explained, “De Zerbi is somebody that obviously Spurs are very much interested in, whether it’s now or at end of the season. A lot will depend on Tottenham securing Premier League survival. It does seem Tottenham would like De Zerbi to come in now, but he’s in no rush right now.
“He would prefer to wait and weigh up his options and probably come into a new job at the end of the season where he can have a full pre-season with his new club and everything else. Obviously he’s just left Marseille in February so he’s in no immediate rush to return to the dugout.
“He’s one of a number of candidates that Spurs have looked at, but with the situation they find themselves in, it’s difficult to attract their top targets.”
Spurs need an inspired appointment
Tottenham have looked at multiple managers in recent weeks, and it remains to be seen who they end up with. Thomas Frank and Igor Tudor have been catastrophic failures at the London club this season, and they need someone who can get the best out of their team.
The North Londoners have quality players at their disposal, but they have suffered from persistent injury problems. Tottenham need to bring a quality manager in the summer, and they will need some luck with injuries as well.
